SMALL PRACTICES · EVERYDAY FAITH
Start where you are.
You don’t need a perfect routine. Choose one practice below and give it a little room in your day.
A five-minute pause
- Arrive. Set aside your phone and sit quietly for a moment.
- Give thanks. Name one specific thing you’re grateful for, even if today has been difficult.
- Be honest. Tell God what feels heavy, confusing, or unfinished.
- Listen and reflect. Read a short passage from your Bible slowly. Notice a word or question you want to return to.
- Take one step. Choose a small action that puts kindness or faith into practice.
When you don’t know what to pray
Try these beginnings. Finish them in your own words; there is no need to sound impressive.
- God, today I’m thankful for…
- What I’m finding hard to carry is…
- Please help me respond with patience when…
- Someone I want to remember in prayer is…
- One thing I’m ready to entrust to You is…
Read Scripture with attention
Choose a short passage from a Gospel or a Psalm in your own Bible. Read the surrounding verses so you understand the context, then read it again more slowly.
Ask: What is happening here? What does this show about God or how people respond to Him? What question remains? How might this shape one choice I make today?
You don’t have to resolve every question in one sitting. Write it down and discuss it with a trusted pastor, study group, or mature Christian friend.
A simple seven-day rhythm
- Monday — Gratitude: Write down three ordinary gifts you might otherwise overlook.
- Tuesday — Prayer: Pray for someone by name, then check in with them if appropriate.
- Wednesday — Scripture: Read a short passage twice and write one honest question.
- Thursday — Kindness: Do something helpful without expecting recognition.
- Friday — Reflection: Notice a moment you handled well and one you want to learn from.
- Saturday — Rest: Make room for a quiet walk, a shared meal, or unhurried time.
- Sunday — Connection: Worship or talk about faith with a trusted community.
Miss a day? Begin again with the next small step. This is a rhythm to support you, not a scorecard.
A question to carry
Where could I make a little more room for patience, courage, or generosity today?
